Si vous désirez faire l'installation en français, éjectez cette disquette et insérez la disquette nommée "Install 1, Français" (ou ouvrez le dossier "Install Français" se trouvant sur le CD-ROM).
CD-ROM Installation
Installation of this kit is provided in English and French. To install the Arabic Language Kit in English, open the "Install English" folder. To install the Arabic Language Kit in French, open the "Install Français" folder.
Sample Software Folder
The floppy disk set and the CD-ROM both contain the software needed to install the Arabic Language Kit. The CD-ROM includes demo applications you can use with your Arabic Language Kit. (The samples are not full-scale programs, but they provide an overview of several products which complement the Arabic Language Kit.)
Installation
Refer to the Macintosh Arabic Language Kit Installation and User's Guide for installation and setup information.
If you are installing the Arabic Language Kit on the Hebrew version of the Mac OS, you may want to choose the left-to-right setting in the "Text" control panel for proper justification of Roman text during installation.
If you install both Persian and Arabic Language Kits, the kit you installed last will appear as the default script in dialog boxes where Arabic or Persian is displayed.
System 7.5.1 Updates
If you are using the System 7.5 version of the Mac OS, it is highly recommended that you update to System 7.5.1. The "Language Kit Extras" folder on the Arabic Language Kit CD contains the updater software for the following systems:
British (UK)
French
German
U.S.
Updates for other System 7.5.1 versions can be found on the following on-line bulletin boards:
• eWorld: Apple Customer Center: Apple Technical Support: International Software Updates Macintosh: System Software: System 7.5 Update 1.0
Installing over a pre System 7.5 Hebrew or Thai Version of the Mac OS
If you add the Arabic Language Kit to a Hebrew or Thai version of the Mac OS that is earlier than System 7.5, your Setting control panel and system resources will be automatically updated. Once updated, the older system components cannot be restored by choosing the Installer's Custom Remove option.
Printer Drivers Updated
The LaserWriter 8.3.2 and StyleWriter 1200 2.1.1 drivers will be installed if they are not already present.
If you do not have QuickDraw™ GX installed, and you experience PostScript errors when using the LaserWriter 8 driver, turn background printing off and print again. To turn background printing off, select the chooser from the Apple menu, click on the LaserWriter 8 driver, select the printer in the scrolling list of printers and click on the Off button.
Important: Use the Updated Version of SimpleText!
The most recent versions of SimpleText, a basic multilingual text processing application, are provided on the "Install 1, English" diskette and on the CD-ROM. If you have a version of SimpleText earlier than version 1.2, you must replace it with a newer version of SimpleText from this kit.
Four versions of SimpleText are provided with this kit: SimpleText Arabic 1.2, SimpleText Persian 1.3, SimpleText English 1.3, and SimpleText French 1.2. The SimpleText application is not automatically installed. To install SimpleText, drag your preferred language version from "Install 1, English", "Install 1, Français" or the CD, to your hard disk.
Working with Right-to-Left Scripts
If you choose the right-to-left option in the "Text" control panel, you may notice that the line direction option does not automatically update every application. You must quit the application and launch it again before you see any changes made to the system line direction.
When several language kits are installed on one Macintosh computer, system services like the Open/Save dialogs and Publish/Subscribe dialogs will be displayed based on the most recently installed language kit.
Fonts
If you are exchanging documents with a colleague using an Arabic or Persian version of the Mac OS and the font in the document is not displayed correctly, select the text and choose an Arabic font that is installed with the Arabic Language Kit.
PostScript fonts will not be accessible when GX is installed.
The Thuluth font has been included in the language kit to insure compatibility with documents that you might receive from colleagues using older versions of the localized Arabic system. However, since this font is of lower quality, it is not recommended for general use.
Arabic and Persian Calendars
Some localized Arabic/Persian applications may require an Arabic/Persian calendar. You can drag the Arabic or Persian calendar from the "Language Kit Extras" folder to your "System" folder and it will be placed in the "Control Panels" folder.
While this calendar will not be used by your system at the desktop level, it will be accessible to localized applications that have been specifically designed to take advantage of it.
